The purpose of this study was to treat symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) resulting from exposure to the current Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Participants were randomly be assigned to receive traditional prolonged exposure therapy or prolonged exposure therapy combined with Virtual Reality. We were also examining the effects of using D-Cycloserine (DCS) in conjunction with treatment.
The purpose of this study was to learn about the effects that TBI has on extinction learning- a type of learning that has been identified as important in the development of anxiety disorders. We also wanted to better understand the effects that TBI has on functioning in general, and on mood and anxiety symptoms. This was done for the larger purpose of helping us to learn about the ways that our minds process stress.

The population recruited were individuals who have served in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars and were experiencing any difficulties related to a mild or moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI) sustained during deployment.
